Retail stores are able to employ tailored messaging to the customer because of Machine Learning. Walmart is one of the largest retail stores in the world. The retail giant tested facial recognition software as an anti-theft tool in 2015. In addition to the successful trial, Walmart decided to use the facial recognition to detect upset shoppers. Walmart is able to use Machine Learning to improve their overall customer experience. As a result of providing a better customer experience, Walmart increases their ability to drive revenue growth.


Machine Learning has transformed one of the largest retail spaces in the world. Amazon has deployed the technology throughout the company but we will focus on Alexa for this article. Alexa is capable of a wide range of tasks including making a to-do list, setting alarms and more. Alexa has been a great way for Amazon to collect more consumer data as it’s actively storing information with each interaction. This enables Alexa to make decisions based on historical data collection. By collecting interaction data, Amazon is able to constantly improve their customer experience.

North Face is joining the action with their shopping assistant tool. The shopping assistant uses the latest machine learning technology to enhance the user experience. The goal of the shopping assistant is to make shopping for a coat fast and painless. I decided to test this tool out for myself and was delighted by the experience. The Shopper assistant not only asks you a specific question, it provides suggestions on how to phrase the answers.
